Today, I would like to write about a story of two Koi fish I encountered last semester.
Last semester, I had to get some sort of red fish for my sculpture project. I figured that baby Koi fish was the most suitable ones, so I bought 2 of them for about 50cents. I was very surprised at how cheap they are. What if I could by baby salmon fish for so cheap and raise it until it gets to eatable size…?but then meanwhile, I will become attached to the salmon and will not be able to eat it, I guess. Anyway, here is the picture of one of the koi fish in my work.
It looks like there are 2 but it’s just an reflection of the water. In short explanation, this project theme was to make an emphasis on inside and outside on something, so I mischievously juxtaposed the vast ocean with a space in a little dish bowl for the fish. After the project was done, I had to give those fish away to somebody because I knew that I won’t be able to take care of them. Luckily, I found my friend, Kriza who wanted to take care of them. BUT then a week later, she accidentally dropped one of the two into a drain when she was cleaning the tank…she said she screamed and made long distance calls to people to share her sympathy. I can’t really pick on her because I have also killed a guppy fish when I was 9yrs old. I had the guppy in a little glass case on top of a TV near a window. It was fine for winter and spring, but summer came, and the fish was boiled to death… my hometown can get to 30 degrees above.
This weekend I went to Kriza’s house and finally got to see the well survived one in 4 months. He was put in a IKEA container with 2 other gold fish. Here is the picture.
They even had a spot light. The koi fish has grown twice the size as I first got him from the store. According to Kriza, he is too fat, ( I couldn’t tell) so I hope he won’t get too too fat and get cancer later in his life. Best regard. No matter where the fish go he will always have spontaneous life, even in the ocean he may be eaten by a bigger fish (koi fish don’t live in salt water…say, maybe a pond) or he may be loved so much by somebody. This maybe applied to our lives, too. okay, it’s getting corny, I shall shut up.
Everything was the same but as soon as I sat, the chair and desks seemed very tiny. It is amazing how much I grew up.
I pretended to be in a class. I felt good. I wish I had this same brain when I was a student there so I could be a outstanding student. maybe not.
