Nov. 17th dinner: Egg&vege don+ miso soup
Eggs are my good friends when I don’t have too much money for buying meat. Eating only vege cannot fulfill me but eggs can. This egg and vege don is my own version of donburi. (don is an abbreviation of donburi.) Donburi is a Japanese traditional dish. Basically, anything that is put over top of rice is called donburi.
Nov. 14th dinner: Gyoza + mozuku (seaweed) + rice
This is a quick meal. I came home late this night. I could buy a pre-cooked food on the way home but I am short on money this month, and the frozen gyoza was there in the fridge for me. Since I started being very careful of what to buy, I have realized that I only need 10dollars in total for each week. I used to buy extra food for “just in case,” and ended up throwing molded vegetables, but lately, I am buying just enough amount for a week. This seems to be working quite well.
Nov. 8th dinner: Pork with sesame sauce + vegetable soup + rice
Luckily, I found a sesame sauce before it was going bad in the fridge, so I decided to use it. There was only a tiny bit left. I was saving it because it’s so good…but finally the day came, it was about to go bad. Because there was such a little amount, it was hardly coming out of the bottle, so I put some soy sauce and mixed them to make it more liquid. this is called an obsession.
Nov. 4th lunch: Fried curry rice + seaweed
Since I have started this energy record, I have realized that I cook with curry a lot. I almost posted another curry dish the other day but decided not to because the first energy post was curry, too. I must admit today that I am a curry addict. and I was influenced my mother, almost every time I phone her, she tells me to eat curry because it’s good for health..I haven’t asked her in detail-why, but I adapted curry diet because it tastes good, and I never get tired of it.
and you may be surprised by the grotesque looking thing at the left corner. it’s seaweed. it’s good. you may not believe me, but that’s fine, I will continue eating seaweed anyways.
Oct. 26th dinner with my friend: Tomato sauce spaghetti + garlic toasts
Indian->Japanese->Italian
I had a guest this night! and I made my guest, Melissa, make garlic bread because I was not Italian enough to know how to make them…actually she is not Italian either. This is Melissa’s recipe for making garlic toasts 1. she spread some olive oil on the bread 2. cut a garlic clove into half. 3. rub the garlic on the bread. 4. toast them on a pan until they turn crisp(you might prefer using oven) (but I haven’t cleaned or even opened my oven since I moved to this apartment…).
Oct. 22nd lunch: Oden (it is like a Japanese vege stew) + rice
This is a very “authentic” Japanese meal , and I am intrigued by the fact that most of the ingredients for such meal can be purchased at most of the stores here.
I actually love cooking, too!! and I also enjoy grocery shopping as part of the cooking process. I believe that how you dine reflects your everything, culture, health, communication..etc.
My favorite grocery stores:
Kim’s market on Davie St.
Capers on Robson St.
Marketplace on Burrard St.
Oct. 11th dinner: Very Vegetable Curry + boiled egg + salad
Vege in curry: egg plant, mashrooms, onions, carrots, potatoes, garlic
